CGA a Leader in the Use of XBRL for Reporting
This year, CGA-Canada demonstrated its leadership role in the accounting community by being one of the first Canadian organizations to publish its financial statements in the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). CGA is a member of XBRL Canada, a
world-wide consortium developing the XBRL standard.
XBRL is a language for the electronic communication of business and financial data, which is becoming a key business reporting tool around the world. It is designed to facilitate the preparation, analysis, and communication of business information, based on the XML language, which has become a standard means of communicating information on the Internet.

Information Management
In response to this year’s changes to the certification model and curriculum delivery, a new Association Information Management System (AIMS) is under development to replace the old database system.
Access to a number of online systems will be streamlined to provide higher-quality services for CGA members and students. This year, we were also successful in securing the domain name www.cga.org, which will further strengthen our Web presence.

Extranet and Intranet Improvements
Over the past fiscal year, the foundation was laid for improving CGA-Canada’s Extranet and Intranet. Changes are being made to electronic communication channels through the Extranet, in order to improve internal communication. Another goal is to coordinate operations through the Intranet with a Web-based environment that provides information to staff.
Based on knowledge management technologies, this framework is already in use by both the Research and Standards and Government Relations departments to facilitate the management of knowledge and information for their projects. CGA-Canada is now in a strong position to reap the benefits of effective management of knowledge using these new technologies.
