As it does every year, CGA-Canada’s Corporate office worked to support the Association’s ongoing strategic planning activities, led by the Strategic Planning Committee of the Board. The issues addressed in these discussions included:
- The changing professional and competitive environment following the recent failed accounting mergers;
- The evolution of the profession as it moves to meet the challenges of accounting standards evolution, and the emerging challenges related to financial reporting for the corporate and not-for-profit sectors; and,
- Ensuring that CGA remains responsive and innovative as it tackles the ongoing educational and professional development needs of the profession.
In addition to these strategic discussions, the Board undertook improvements in its operating effectiveness. To this end, it has contracted with the Association Resource Centre (ARC) to facilitate and support advances in the Board’s approach to discussions and decision-making.
And finally, the project to update the Board Policy Manual was completed. This involved considerable work and has resulted in an effective and thoroughly accessible set of policies and procedures to guide the Association’s operations.
CGA-Canada would like to thank the many volunteers who helped the Association pursue its strategic goals. In addition to members who served on various committees, there are numerous individuals who worked closely with the Association on a daily basis. Through on-going consultation and teamwork with these people, CGA-Canada has accomplished corporate goals and defined strategic plans for the year ahead.
