Associations
Strong Bonds
FROM:
JUL-AUG 2003 ISSUE
The main goal of CGA-P.E.I. in the coming years is to foster stronger bonds between members, says William
(Bill) Pitre, BBA, CGA, the affiliate president for
2003-04. "It is our goal to have
75 per cent participation in at least one
CGA-sponsored event," he says. In addition, the provincial board intends to strengthen the ties between
CGA-P.E.I. and the other affiliates.
"It is also our goal to see our province obtain full public practice rights, which we hope to achieve before the end of 2003," Pitre says.
Pitre is "from away," as they say on the Island. Originally from
New Brunswick, he spent three years in Toronto before transferring to the Charlottetown Tax Services Office with the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. He currently is an international tax auditor and lives in Stratford, P.E.I., with his wife of eight years, Jennifer, and
two-year-old daughter Alyson. They are expecting their
second child in October.
A career public servant, Pitre has worked for the tax department for 14 years, having been recruited out of university. He received his CGA designation in 1997.
Shortly after certification, Pitre was invited to sit on the provincial education committee. Since then, he has served on many provincial committees, has represented P.E.I. on the National Education Committee and now sits on the
CGA-Canada Board. He is also chair for student services for the Maritime Region and is on the Atlantic Image Enhancement Committee. "I feel it is important that every member of our Association take part at some level," Pitre says. "It is important in any organization that there is a strong relationship among members. Only through a strong membership will we have a strong Association, locally, nationally and internationally."
Serving with Pitre on the CGA-P.E.I. executive are
Paula Gallant, CGA,
vice-president;
Sue Stephenson, CGA, treasurer;
Sherry Spence, CGA, secretary; and
Derek Huestis, CGA, past president.
