Brand Building in Saskatchewan

The most important goal for CGA Saska-tchewan in the coming year is increasing the number of students and members, says Tony Ducie, CGA, and president for 2004-05.

"The Association came to the realization that a low profile and a lack of public awareness of CGAs in Saskatchewan were hindering our ability to attract students," says Ducie.

CGA Saskatchewan, with the support of CGA-Canada, has embarked on an Image Enhancement program to draw new students into the program and increase the public's awareness of the designation.

Ducie himself is a veteran of the industry, having spent the past 28 years working for the Co-operative Trust Company of Canada, a national financial institution serving primarily credit unions and credit union members, with assets under administration exceeding $13 billion. He has served as the company's vice-president Finance and Treasurer since 1984.

"I obtained my CGA designation in 1993 after realizing that I needed professional development to ensure continued success and growth in my chosen career. The CGA program provided me with the skill set and professional pride that I was looking for," says Ducie.

A graduate of the Banff School of Management Executive Development Course and the American Management Association, Ducie is also a member of the Financial Executives International.

He has been a CGA Saskatchewan board member for almost three years and is the national board member for Saskatchewan. He has also served on the Disciplinary Committee, and has been a CGA-Canada board member for nearly three years, serving on the Strategic Planning and Nominations committees. Prior to joining the board he spent two years as a member of the inaugural CGA-Canada Finance Committee.

Ducie and his wife Terri have been married for more than 38 years, and have three grown children, Tim, Tammy, and Tracie. He also has two granddaughters — Baylee, 5, and Elisha, who is almost 18 months old. The Ducies are proud to call Saskatoon their hometown, and have lived there almost all their lives.

Serving with Ducie on the CGA Saskatchewan executive are Louise Usick, CGA, past president; Catherine Mengal, CGA, first vice-president;Rob Stephenson, CGA, second vice-president; and Lin March, FCGA, secretary.
