Canada's cities are some of the least expensive in the world, according to Mercer Human Resource Consulting's 2004 cost of living survey. The five Canadian cities included in the survey all rank toward the bottom of the list. The survey, which includes
144 cities, measures the comparative cost of over
200 items, including housing, food, clothing, and household goods, along with transportation and entertainment. The baseline index of 100 is assigned to
New York City. (NYC ranked 12
th).
