Porter Hétu International Welcomes New Associates from China

Leading Canadian-based accounting and consulting firm Porter Hétu International recently welcomed two new associates from China: the Zhongjianhua firm from Beijing, and the ShangRai firm from Shanghai.

"The new Chinese firms are a strong addition to our group," said Ernest Boudreau, FCGA, Chairman of the Management Committee of Porter Hétu International. "They will give us excellent representation in the ever-growing Chinese markets, and will enable us to better serve Canadian clients who are doing increasingly larger volumes of business in China.

"The increasing popularity of the CGA designation in China " largely due to the accessibility of CGA-Canada's leading-edge accounting and auditing courses there " has made the association with the Chinese firms an easy transition. We also share the same code of ethics and practice standards," commented Boudreau.

Porter Hétu currently has 44 associate offices in Canada and internationally, as well as associates in Barbados, Venezuela, and Europe. The company's partners and senior staff are predominantly CGAs.

CRA Creates Centres of Expertise

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) recently created 11 new Centres of Expertise to address aggressive international tax planning structures and the abusive use of tax havens.

These new centres will bring together audit professionals from the areas of international tax, special audits, and tax avoidance to create teams of experts that will enable the CRA to ensure that everyone pays their required share of taxes.

The initiative was made possible as a result of an annual $30 million investment announced in the 2005 federal budget to enhance the CRA's compliance activities.

The centres will be located at Tax Services Offices in Halifax, Saint John, Montreal, Laval, Ottawa, Toronto West, London, Winnipeg, Calgary, Burnaby, and Vancouver.
