Balanced Scorecards
FROM: NOV-DEC 2005 ISSUE | BY ROBIN DAY
When a prospective client recently asked me if I was familiar with BS reporting, my first reaction was to launch into my spiel on the high ethical standards of CGAs. Fortunately, he clarified the question in time to head me off at the pass and I was able to direct him to a few good resources on BSC: the Balanced Scorecard approach to management.

The Balanced Scorecard Collaborative, founded by BSC gurus Robert Kaplan and David Norton, is a mix of free and pay-for-play information on BSC. Check out the learning centre for audio presentations describing how BSC helps organizations focus on strategy.

This article from CIO Magazine includes practical advice from CIOs of several large organizations that have implemented BSC systems.

A lot of the material on this Web site relates to government and non-profit implementations of BSC, but the resources section also includes some excellent information for those in the for-profit world.
www.bettermanagement.com
The BetterManagement.com site has good information in the Scorecard and Performance Management area. Some of the Web casts are a bit pricey, but judging by the quality of the free content, they could be worthwhile.
Prefer hardcopy? Most major booksellers still carry Kaplan and Norton’s original book, as well as their follow-up publication, Strategy-Focused Organization: How Balanced Scorecard Companies Thrive in the New Business Environment.
