Time for Action

CGA-Quebec is now more determined than ever to see CGAs gain full practice rights in Quebec, and will continue to press for change, says the new president of the Association, Ginette Fortin, Pl.Fin., FCGA.

A graduate of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, with more than 20 years of entrepreneurial experience, Fortin currently serves as director, Wealth Management for the National Bank of Canada (Mauricie-Bois-Francs and Sorel division).

Fortin first became involved with CGA-Quebec in 1988, one year after receiving her CGA designation. She was elected to the CGA-Quebec Board in 2000, and was named an FCGA the same year.

"I got involved with the Association because I believe in the CGA designation, and I think we need to make ourselves heard. CGAs need to take their rightful place in the business community, and I believe everyone has to contribute to furthering these goals," she says.

She currently serves on the Board of the Trois-Rivières Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and as treasurer of the Trois-Rivières Tourism Office. She is also president of the Canadian Red Cross ( Trois-Rivières branch) and sits on the Board of Les Artisans bénévoles de la paix en Mauricie, a community service organization.

Fortin enjoys reading, cycling, watching films, and, as often as possible, travelling in countries with rich histories. She and her husband Jacques Auger have been married for almost 30 years, and have two daughters, Catherine, 23, and Geneviève, 22. Fortin, who was born and raised in Quebec, currently lives in Trois-Rivières.

Serving with Fortin on the CGA-Quebec executive are Michel P. Laliberté, FCGA, first vice-chair; Pierre Samson, FCGA, second vice-chair; Yvon Gingras, CGA, elected administrator and treasurer; Huguette Picard, OT, administrator appointed by Quebec's Office des professions; Alain Laplante, FCGA, past Chair; and Alain Girard, MBA, FCGA, president, chief executive officer and secretary.
