Editor’s Note
Ringing in 2008 with a Special Issue
FROM: JAN-FEB 2008 ISSUE | BY PEGGY HOMAN, EDITOR
As we welcome the New Year, the CGA Association is preparing for a year of celebration to mark a significant milestone. In 1908, accountant John Leslie formed a club which would eventually become the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada. In this special anniversary issue of CGA Magazine, you’ll find a feature article about the evolution of the designation over the past hundred years.
While there have been many changes in recent decades, the fact that the Association exists to serve the needs of members and students will never change. With this in mind, we spoke with a few members from different parts of the country to find out what the designation means to them and how it has influenced their careers. Turn to the Network section to read about our top students of the past year.
As many of you will know, several of our columnists have been writing for the magazine for quite some time. A few of them were eager to share their thoughts on some of the latest developments in standards, taxation, and technology – all of which have had a profound effect on the accounting profession.
Many of the columns in this issue look to the past. But we’re pleased to provide you with a column that looks to the future and provides tips on finding your next career opportunity. If you are in the market for a new position, you may want to check www.cga.org/canada as CGA-Canada was recently named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers.
Wishing you prosperity and happiness in 2008.
