Executive Compensation

The CFA Institute for Financial Market Integrity has released its global manual, The Compensation of Senior Executives at Listed Companies: A Manual for Investors, which provides a comprehensive examination of how executive compensation is determined, the elements of compensation, governance practices, and associated risks for investors. “The Manual should be a ‘go-to’ resource for investors, investor relations professionals, corporate boards, and business media,” says the Centre’s managing director.

Tuesday Taskmasters

Feeling particularly productive on Tuesdays? If so, you’re not alone. A recent poll of senior executives conducted by Accountemps indicates Tuesday is the most productive day of the week, while Friday is the least. “Many view Tuesday as an opportunity to focus their efforts and establish momentum for the rest of the week,” says Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps.

Revenge of the Loonie?

Travel to Canada from the United States hit a record low in January, bringing down overall travel to its lowest level on record since record-keeping began in 1972. The number of trips to Canada from the United States failed to reach the 2-million mark for the first time ever. Meanwhile, Canadian residents took 4.4 million trips outside the country in January; an estimated 3.8 million of those trips were to the U.S.

Garden Season

According to Statistics Canada, 66 per cent of Canadian households – nearly 8.5 million – reported expenditures on garden supplies and services in 2006. The median amount spent was $200. Services include nursery and greenhouse stock, cut flowers, decorative plants, fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, soil, soil conditioners, and horticultural services.
