CGA Quebec president Danielle Hébert on giving back to the community.

What are your goals as president of the Ordre des CGA du Québec?

The priorities developed through consensus by the Administrative Committee of the Ordre are very important and deal with the following issues: full practice rights, the Ordre’s centennial, bill 75 (an Act to amend the Professional Code, the legal instrument governing the Ordre des CGA du Québec), and several others. We also want to increase our presence among students through appropriate actions, which includes a tour of all Quebec universities in the province.

What’s your day job?

As a tax appeal officer with the Canada Revenue Agency, I review cases where taxpayers oppose reassessments. My employer has always supported me as a professional, but also with regards to my responsibilities and my close association with the Ordre des CGA du Québec.

What do you like most about what you do?

I truly appreciate the balance between the technical side of my work and the part that calls on interpersonal skills. I particularly enjoy connecting with business people.

What do you tell people who are considering a career in taxation?

It’s a very motivating field. Tax law is constantly evolving along with the economy. As a result, there are many interesting challenges. In addition, demand is strong in this field and taxation offers a wide range of professional opportunities.

What do you consider to be the greatest accomplishment of your career?

My various accomplishments as a member of many committees of the Ordre, of the board and now as president. This position allows me to make a meaningful contribution to advancing my profession and enhancing the profile of the CGA designation.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Despite my very busy schedule at the Ordre, I volunteer in the education community because I truly believe that education is key to our children’s future. When I want to unwind, I enjoy spending time by a lake or on the ski slopes.
