What are your goals for the year?
We successfully completed our strategic plan and are now developing a new plan which will continue to ensure that CGA remains a leader in B.C. I look forward to working with the board and the staff as we take it from paper to reality.
What will be the main focus for CGAs and students?
We continue to concentrate on our Vision 2008 strategy and our three main goals: recruitment, empowerment, and employment. We are focused on recruiting and empowering people to promote the benefits of the CGA program and hiring CGAs. And we’re promoting employment opportunities through our cgajobs.org site. We’re especially thrilled about our Partners in Employment Program (PEP), as we have more than 75 employment partners. CGA-BC established PEP to recognize leading companies in industry, government, and public practice that provide an effective training and working environment for CGAs and students.
What do you enjoy most about being a CGA?
I like the flexibility and opportunities available to CGAs, particularly the opportunities under the new international MRAs.
What is your most interesting work experience to date?
I’m the electronic commerce audit specialist with CRA in Penticton. I download information for auditors who are then able to conduct audits using electronic files instead of paper. In 2002 I travelled to Brasilia, Brazil for three weeks to train auditors on using the technology we use for electronic audits.
What leisure activities do you like to pursue?
In summertime I’m a crew member on a racing sailboat. We race on Okanagan Lake; I’ve been doing it for about four years now. In winter I downhill ski, and even though I go a lot faster on skis than I do on a sailboat in a race, the boat races are much more exhilarating.
