What are CGA Ontario’s goals for the coming year?
To achieve authorized designated body status and issue the first public accounting licences in Ontario. We will also continue to execute our strategic plan and to work towards improving our governance processes.
What motivated you to start volunteering with CGA?
I have always believed in giving back to those organizations where I am a member or have an interest, such as my church, the Diabetes Association, and CGA. Volunteering my time for CGA is a key part of these activities.
How do you balance all the areas of your busy life?
Very carefully! I have always been deliberate in taking time for myself and not letting the professional activities I’m involved in completely dominate my time. I schedule personal activities and time off well in advance and ensure that I fit my professional schedule around that where ever possible.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I enjoy the problem solving. I view every client situation as being a unique challenge. The opportunity to solve problems for others ties into my volunteer activities as well. Every organization faces challenges and has opportunities to grow and improve. I gain satisfaction from being a part of solving those challenges.
What has been the biggest accomplishment of your career so far?
It’s very hard to choose just one. First of all, being a CGA led me to meet my wife, who is also a CGA, and to build a wonderful family together. Secondly, appearing as an expert witness before Parliament on numerous occasions dealing with a variety of topics related to our profession. Third, having clients from all around the world. Finally, becoming chair of CGA Ontario is a great accomplishment and an honour.
How do you unwind after a busy day?
I spend time with my family. I also enjoy gardening, puzzles (Sudoku, crosswords), and most of all, golf.
