Belt Tightening Canadians

More than one third of Canadians say they are postponing spending on large purchases, according to a global survey conducted by a leading market intelligence firm. Synovate surveyed 11,400 respondents from 16 markets around the world to determine what had changed about their money management attitudes during the global financial crisis. The survey indicated 20 per cent of Canadians have written or revised budgets in the past six months, and 37 per cent said they do not have enough money to make a major purchase. “Friending” Business Contacts

As more and more companies adopt social networking policies, an independent research company has indicated that seven in 10 executives are uncomfortable being ‘friended’ on Facebook by employees they manage or their bosses. OfficeTeam executives say personal and professional lines have blurred as social networking sites are used for business purposes, but most professionals do not want to connect with business contacts on Facebook. Google Hiring in Canada

Google currently has about 100 Canadian employees, but is looking to expand that number as the company is hiring in its four Canadian offices. The Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Waterloo locations all have positions open. One of the main reasons Google is looking to grow its staffing numbers in this country is that Canadians search twice as much as Americans and spend about a third more time online than Americans.
