CGA Magazine is now offering ongoing 12-week internships for current students and recent graduates. Be involved in every stage of the magazine production cycle for both print and online. Programs can be adapted to suit an individual’s strengths and part-time or shorter duration options are available.
You will have the opportunity to work in the following areas:
- Writing various non-industry sections such as Play (culture, travel, food/drink, entertainment) and Top 5 lists
- Editing
- Fact-checking
- Researching
- Interviewing
- Proofreading
- Proofing print files
- Working with digital magazine platform
- Attending design and content-planning meetings
- Working with content management systems for website (WordPress)
- Basic audio/video editing
- Some marketing activities may be included for those interested
CGA Magazine is in the process of launching a new, dedicated website. We are also revamping the content and look of the print publication. Both of these offer opportunities for interns to participate and contribute to the creative process on multiple levels.

CGA Magazine profiles current issues relevant to professional accountancy, including leadership, small business, international finance, ethics, tax, and standards, and discusses news and trends in the business and regulatory environments. The magazine has won numerous awards at the Tabbies and Western Magazine Awards (including being named Trade Magazine of the Year). Printed six times per year, this glossy publication is distributed to more than 75,000 CGA students, members, and leaders in the business, government, education and regulatory communities.
Detailed Job Description
Under the direction of the Managing Editor and Production Coordination, the magazine intern will do the above-listed tasks as required. A typical day will involve fact-checking and copy editing print and online articles, researching future story ideas, updating the magazine website, working with our internal databases for mailings, coordinating classified ads for the print issue, proofing layouts during production and other duties as requested.
CGA Magazine Office Location
We are located at 4200 North Fraser Way off Marine Way in Burnaby. We offer free parking for employees and guests, and are on a bus route that connects directly to Metrotown SkyTrain. Our office has full kitchen facilities, with fridges, microwaves, toaster ovens, dishware, cutlery, cups, etc. We also have a fully-equipped gym with cardio and weight equipment, as well as weekly yoga classes and communal bikes. Walking paths along the Fraser River are next to our building, and there are cafes, restaurants and various services within an easy driving distance.
Qualifications
Applicants must be current students or recent graduates (within the last year) of a post-secondary journalism or publishing program. Knowledge of MS Office and Adobe Acrobat required. Experience with WordPress preferred. French is NOT required for this position.
