Jackie Poirier was appointed to the executive committee of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) for a four-year term, beginning November 2007. Ms. Poirier, past chair of CGA-Canada, is the sole Canadian representative on the committee.

With 34 member organizations in two dozen jurisdictions, CAPA is the largest of four regional accountancy organizations recognized by the International Federation of Accountants. Its geographical reach spans half the globe, from Canada to Pakistan. Its mission is to provide leadership in the development, enhancement and coordination of the accounting profession in the Asia-Pacific region. CAPA also promotes standards harmonization.

Ms. Poirier has served on the CGA-Canada board of directors since 2001 and as a member of the executive committee since 2002. She was president of CGA Nova Scotia in 1999-2000. A CGA since 1993, she was awarded the CGA-Canada Fellowship (FCGA) designation in 2002.

As regional director, human resources, at Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ms. Poirier is responsible for strategic human resources services to CRA management and employees throughout the Atlantic region.

Sylvie Voghel was appointed chair of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Small and Medium Practices (SMP) Committee in January 2006 for a three year term. This new committee evolved from the SMP Task Force, struck in 2001. Ms. Voghel began her work with IFAC as CGA-Canada’s technical advisor to the board from 2000 to 2003. She was a member of the IFAC Governance Task Force in 2002. In 2003, she was appointed to the IFAC board of directors for a two year term, and re-appointed to this board in 2005 for another three year term. She chaired the IFAC SMP/SME and Developing Nations Consultative Conference in Prague in 2005.

Ms. Vogel served as chair of CGA-Canada in 1999-2000. She also contributed many years of service to numerous committees. She served as president of the Ordre des CGA du Québec in 1995-96 and held various board positions from 1991 to 1997. Ms. Voghel was named life member of the Ordre des CGA du Québec and was awarded the CGA-Canada Fellowship (FCGA) designation in 1994.

She is the co-owner of Enveloppe Concept Inc., an envelope manufacturing business in Montreal.

Dany Girard was appointed to the International Accounting Standards Board’s (IASB) working group on Accounting Standards for Small and Medium-sized Entities (SMEs) in April 2005. He was named to the board of the Fédération internationale des experts-comptables francophones (FIDEF) in 2006.

He served as chair of CGA-Canada in 2005-06 and contributed many years of service to numerous committees. Mr. Girard was president of L’Ordre des CGA du Québec in 2001-02. He was awarded the CGA-Canada Fellowship (FCGA) designation in 2000.

Currently executive director of the Caisse Desjardins d’Arvida-Kénogami in Jonquière, Mr. Girard has worked in credit union management since 1991. Previously, he was employed as a public accountant and tax consultant at Samson, Bélair-Deloitte & Touche. Mr. Girard was a member of the Mouvement Desjardins provincial Rate-Setting Committee in 2002-03, and has a long record of community involvement. He is currently vice-president of the Ville Saguenay’s Société de développement économique, a member of the Comité exécutif de Promotion Saguenay Inc., and a member of Fonds d’investissement local.

Jean Précourt was appointed as president of the Fédération internationale des experts-comptables francophones (FIDEF) in October 2006 for a two year term. He served as vice-president of FIDEF and has been a delegate since 2001. From 1995 to 2000, he was technical advisor to the Financial and Management Accounting Committee of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

Mr. Précourt served as chair of CGA-Canada in 1995-96. He also contributed many years of service to numerous committees. Mr. Précourt was president of the Ordre des CGA du Québec in 1990-91. He was awarded the CGA-Canada Fellowship (FCGA) designation in 1989.

Mr. Précourt has worked in public practice, as director of education for the Ordre des CGA du Québec, as senior executive in several manufacturing and engineering firms, as well as for Via Rail. Until recently, he held the position of director of financial operations and assistant treasurer for Hydro-Québec, a leader in energy production.

Mr. Précourt currently chairs the board of directors of the Bois-de-Boulogne college. He also serves as first vice-chair of the board of directors of the Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal, which is affiliated to the Université de Montréal, and chairs the finance and auditing committees.

Mr. Précourt is a lecturer in accounting sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal, as well as for the masters in engineering management program at the Université de Sherbrooke. He was also lecturer at McGill University for twenty years and he currently serves on the Program Committee for the Diploma in Accounting.
