CGA-Canada and ACCA renew global recognition agreement 

Two leading international accountancy bodies, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA-Canada) have renewed a global recognition agreement.

The Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), which was originally signed by the two bodies in December 2006, will now run a further five years until 2016, with the aim of bringing additional benefits to members of both organizations.

In the five years since the original agreement was signed, ACCA and CGA-Canada have worked closely on a number of initiatives, including research into the challenges faced by small and medium businesses attempting to gain access to finance. The research produced a wide range of recommendations for governments, lenders and businesses to help reduce the barriers to business growth.

The MRA has already enabled many qualified members of each association to become a member of the other body and enjoy the benefits of greater international recognition and improved professional mobility.

The new MRA was signed in London by ACCA Deputy President Dean Westcott and CGA-Canada Chair Joyce Evans.

ACCA Deputy President Dean Westcott said: “We are delighted to be renewing this important agreement with CGA-Canada which has already delivered considerable benefits for members during a challenging period for our profession and the wider business community. The two bodies have already achieved a great deal working together on a number of initiatives, and we look forward to further successful collaboration in future.”

Increasingly, the accounting profession is being impacted by decisions made on the global stage, which makes strategic collaboration critically important for our members, students and the public.”
