A longstanding philosophy of open access to educational opportunity exists across the CGA Association. In keeping with this philosophy, the CGA Association will provide accommodations for students with special needs. Since no single type of accommodation may be adequate or appropriate for all individuals with any given type of disability, accommodations need to be individualized.
Examples of accommodations that can be provided include:
- extended time for writing examinations;
- examinations written on computers equipped with spell check and other adaptive software programs;
- oral examinations;
- provision of a scribe to write examinations relayed by student;
- examinations recorded on audio tape;
- special seating arrangements.
CGA-Canada, in consultation with CGA Affiliates, is working on developing and refining guidelines and procedures for best practices in the area of accommodating students with special needs.
