Doctoral Funding Program — Conditions of Support

Loans to candidates will be forgiven when the following conditions have been met:

  1. Within two years after the successful completion of the doctoral program, the candidate must obtain a full-time teaching position in a Canadian institution of higher learning, or an advanced fellowship position with full-time research responsibilities.
  2. As a general guideline, the candidate will be required to complete one full-time academic year for each $10,000 of support received, commencing after completion of the doctoral program.
  3. These duties will not be considered to have commenced until the candidate has submitted documentary evidence from the university that he/she has completed all requirements for awarding of the Doctorate. Candidates will be expected to complete all the degree requirements within five years of commencing the doctoral program.
  4. Candidates may be required to immediately repay any financial support received if they are unable to satisfy the preceding conditions. Individuals who withdraw from a doctoral program, regardless of reason, may be required to immediately repay the amount of any outstanding loans.
