Doctoral Funding Program — Conditions of Support
Loans to candidates will be forgiven when the following conditions have been met:
- Within two years after the successful completion of the doctoral program, the candidate must obtain a full-time teaching position in a Canadian institution of higher learning, or an advanced fellowship position with full-time research responsibilities.
- As a general guideline, the candidate will be required to complete one full-time academic year for each $10,000 of support received, commencing after completion of the doctoral program.
- These duties will not be considered to have commenced until the candidate has submitted documentary evidence from the university that he/she has completed all requirements for awarding of the Doctorate. Candidates will be expected to complete all the degree requirements within five years of commencing the doctoral program.
- Candidates may be required to immediately repay any financial support received if they are unable to satisfy the preceding conditions. Individuals who withdraw from a doctoral program, regardless of reason, may be required to immediately repay the amount of any outstanding loans.
